How To Become an Animal Chiropractor
While there is a lot of misinformation about animal chiropractic out there (thanks TikTok), there are also some incredible animal chiropractors helping animals get better every day. Whether you’re here because you want to join the best profession in the world, or you’ve found yourself wondering “how DO you become an animal chiropractor?” This blog post is for you:
The first step in becoming an animal chiropractor is to earn a Bachelor’s degree. Your Bachelor’s degree can be in any subject, but both chiropractic and veterinary schools have a set of prerequisite classes that must be completed before starting professional school. Once you have obtained a Bachelor’s degree in the field of your choice, and have completed the necessary prerequisite classes, you have to complete either a Doctor of Chiropractic (DC) or Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree.
While the admission standards of chiropractic school and veterinary school slightly differ, the scope of practice that each respective degree grants is very different. Before choosing your professional school, you should extensively research each degree and choose the one that fits your goals best.
Once you have chosen the professional school that fits your goals best, you can start looking for the best animal chiropractic school that fits your animal chiropractic goals. Some schools, such as Options For Animals where Dr. Zoe attended, allow students to begin the curriculum before finishing their respective DC or DVM degrees. To obtain a certification in animal chiropractic, you must first graduate your professional school of choice and pass all appropriate board exams to become licensed. Licensed chiropractors and veterinarians have to complete at least 210 hours of instruction at an accredited institution and pass a certification exam from either the IVCA (International Veterinary Chiropractic Association) or the AVCA (American Veterinary Chiropractic Association).
As you can see, animal chiropractors go through extensive training to become experts in treating your pet. While it is not easy, it is quite rewarding. Click here to sign your pet up for animal chiropractic care provided by Dr. Zoe at BALANCE Chiropractic & Wellness Co. in Jacksonville, Florida.
